How it works

Self-management is when you manage your Home Care Package funding yourself. It gives you the flexibility and choice to decide what services and supports you need to achieve your goals.

Our self-management plan is ideal for Home Care Package recipients who want to directly manage their own care. You get to decide how you use your funds to best meet your needs and design and coordinate your own care team and schedule.

With a simple tap of the app, let us know exactly what support you need and we’ll get back to you within 24 hours with Helpers who closely match your criteria. You can then compare their profiles, send them a request, and chat with them directly to organise and book-in a visit.

Five Good Friends have been a leader in Home Care Package fees. For members who are choosing to manage their own home care package, we understand how important it is to keep these fees as low as possible.

Lower hourly rates

The unique Five Good Friends model means hourly rates are 16% lower than what most other providers charge.

You'll get...

Based on a standard hourly Monday - Friday rate of $62.00 per hour*, this is how many hours of care you can receive from Helpers each week. Exact hours may vary based on services types, rates and any changes to government subsidies.

*Hourly rate for most common services: personal care, cleaning and household tasks, light gardening, in-home respite, companionship, driving and community access, medication support, home administration, meal preparation. For nursing see below.

Nursing

$135 per hour

Nursing services may include: wound care and management; medication administration such as assisting you to take medication; general health and other assessments; and certain medical tests including blood pressure. This does not include the price for goods such as bandages, dressings and continence aids where required.

12-hour overnight care

$350 per visit

Overnight care is ideal for people who need the peace of mind of on-call care through the night.

24-hour care

$660 per visit

This care option provides up to 10 hours of active support within a 24-hour period. It is particularly suitable for individuals who do not have family members nearby or who are unable to provide assistance with caregiving.

Member transport

99c per kilometre

Travel which occurs as a component of service delivery, for example transporting a Member to an appointment or community event. This is commonly referred to as non-labour expenses or fees.

Provider travel

Travel a Helper incurs on the way to or from delivering visits, excluding the first visit of the day. This will be charged based on the Helper hourly rate and capped at 15 min per visit.
